VOLUME 1. Meditation Guide p-4: A technique for Intuitive types.
This blog…. is for the Intuitive types, offering a visualization technique. The fourth object of focus is a simple image, a circular dial with a notch at 12 o’clock. Engage imagination using the mind’s eye. If this gets unbearably monotonous or your mind starts to wander, you might want to try moving the dial around at different positions. Let intuition guide you.
If you are confident and creative you might want to try designing your own picture, something that represents your intent. Or you might be drawn to images from one or many different spiritual disciplines. If so…. explore it, test the waters, get crazy abstract, express yourself. Imagery and self-expression play major roles in both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Art Therapy.
I was naturally drawn to the visualization methods of eastern and western occultism while exploring this function, as the symbology/archetype structure generally paralleled my experiences. Due to the stigma of occultism, I was very hesitant to explore this tech but had to ask myself, “Would I be freakin’ out if I were none the wiser?” I had to remember to not panic. The imagery/objects of focus can get pretty hectic, especially in the Tantrik and western occult systems.
Remember, it’s just a guide…. but it can be extremely useful. I’m sure the reader has a general idea of what their mode of orientation is. Your hobby and the thing you think about all the time probably has a direct relation to it. If you are unsure, there are plenty of free tests online but these examples should be relatable. I encourage the reader to do some research if they are unfamiliar with such concepts…. or if these examples don’t suit.

Instead, it appears that the regularity of meditation practice is more important than the type of meditation practised and preferences are mostly subjective rather than reflecting substantive differences in quality.” (Rutledge).
This blog will offer a meditation technique relative to the fourth psychological function….
Intuitive types are generally passionate and express themselves accordingly. Inventive, imaginative and deeply abstract. They see hidden possibilities and let non-local information flow through them. Musicians, painters, athletes all possess this ability, achieving meditative/altered-states through sheer focus (full involvement). “Berger recognized that alpha production was associated with both mental effort and the visual system,” Hemi-sync. This right-left brain hemispheric synchronization promotes a ‘knowing or Intuitive state‘, also known as Automatic Functioning, the Flow State (borderline beta – alpha state 12.5 – 15 Hz) and the Hypnagogic state, where we think in images rather than words.
Alpha states are conducive to enhanced visualization. Sigils, Mandalas or Yidams are a great way for arty types to approach meditation and/or navigating the inner waters. This technique is also great for engineering and tactical types, people who like to plan with schematics and diagrams. Hopefully, intuition will guide you to something relative. The ‘choose or create your own’ object of focus aspect is an added enhancement to inspiration. As you can see, the visualization technique is perfect for (but not restricted to) Intuitive types or those wishing to explore the function in general.

As discussed in part-1 of this blog series, I used an Alpha state (8-13 Hz) binaural beat track. They can be found in most app stores. If you decide to go with binaurals, use good quality stereo headphones and make sure you research them before use for health warnings. They are not a guarantee, or even necessary, but they can increase the probability of success.
Slow breathing…. It doesn’t really matter; it’s just that evidence suggests slow is more productive and safer. It is very dangerous for some to hype themselves up. Especially if you have anxiety issues. The slower and deeper the better and make sure to focus on your chosen object. In this case the self-created symbol and mantra.
“Slow breathing techniques act enhancing autonomic, cerebral and psychological flexibility. Producing changes such as increased comfort, relaxation, pleasantness, vigour and alertness, and reduced symptoms of arousal, anxiety, depression, anger, and confusion,” (Gemignani, 2018).
Focus is the key here…. we are learning how to focus and take control of the breath. It doesn’t matter what method you use, they are relative to the individual. As long as you absolutely involve yourself in the act. Relax into the process.

We’ll strip it down for the tech and keep it simple…. For the beginner, the most productive approach/short term objective is just to get an overall ‘feel’ for it. Get associated with the process and work on that focus. The more effort you put in…. the more personal energy you devote…. the better it works. And you’ll get a great sense of accomplishment which will further promote enthusiasm.
As previously stated, If you want to design or select your own image/object of focus, then do so. Just make sure the image is relative to your intent as it will most probably become a psyche-trigger.
A visualization method for Intuitive types….
Object of Focus – A simple dial with a notch at 12 o’clock.
- Sit with your back straight. If that is not possible, lay down or just get comfortable in a chair.
- Take a few minutes to revise your intent in your mind and get comfortable.
- Play the track. Start with a 12.5 Hz track and set the volume so you can just hear it comfortably. Set a timer if you like.
- Eyes closed or open. Your choice.
- Breathe through the nose or mouth. Your choice.
- Gently visualize the image, moving it if necessary.
- Breathe slowly and purposefully. You will naturally find a rhythm. Just focus on the image.
If your concentration breaks, start to move the dial/object of choice around.
10 minutes at least 4 times a week…. is the general consensus but it’s completely up to you. Just make sure you give yourself a decent chance (a good three months). It’s the same as anything, the more you do it the better you become. You know the drill…. be sensible.
If you are using binaurals…. just use them for training purposes. Gradually use them less.
If you are a novice…. it might pay to follow the structure and examples given. As you can see it’s relatively easy. Try and keep your designs/image choice simple as possible until you get better at visualization, then you can start overlaying intents and upgrading. Learn all techniques.
